In this week’s Bay Guardian are its endorsements of San Francisco candidates and propositions. The Guardian’s choice for supervisor in District 10, which includes Potrero Hill, Bayview Hunters Point and Visitacion Valley, is Bay View columnist - and everybody’s friend and defender - Marie Harrison. Here’s what the Guardian said about Marie:

“A longtime activist in the Bayview, Harrison has a record of speaking out for the community. She strongly opposed a proposal to build a third power plant in the area, fighting PG&E over its ongoing problems in maintaining the Hunters Point Power Plant and its deal with the mayor that kept the city from buying that plant and the Potrero Power Plant in 1998 (see “Dirty Deal,” 7/15/98). A columnist for the San Francisco Bay View newspaper, she’s been a consistent critic of Brown, who she says has let the community down.

“Harrison is particularly strong on tenant issues. She has a long record of public housing activism and is endorsed by the San Francisco Tenants Union. She supports Props. H and N. A staunch foe of development that pushes out locals, she supports Prop. L, which she says will provide a much needed check on political patronage in San Francisco.

“She’s on the steering committee of the MUD campaign and plans to organize a forum that will inform voters in District 10 about this idea - a way to get the community more influence and control over how energy is produced and distributed in San Francisco.

“She also favors reform measure Proposition J, which would prevent officials running for elected office from accepting money from businesses with city contracts. Her Web site provides lots of good information about issues in the Bayview, especially environmental problems.

“She’s supported by some of the city’s leading progressives: Ammiano (whom she supported for mayor), the Harvey Milk Club, Aaron Peskin, Chris Daly, Eric Mar, and others.”
For the record, Marie is also endorsed by the African American Contractors of San Francisco, the New Bayview Merchants Association, the Latino Democratic Club, the Ron Brown Democratic Club and a long list of prominent San Franciscans.
